TOURNAMENT RULES

Tournament Directors
Any problems, questions, or comments pertaining to the rules and regulations should be directed to the Tournament Directors, by the participant, at the Tournament Director's Desk.

Head Judges
Each ring will have a Head Judge who is responsible for running the Forms Competition and refereeing the Fighting Competition.

Conduct
Each contestant will address the judges and officials as "sir" or "ma'am" at all times.  Each contestant should conduct themselves in a respectful and disciplined manner at all times.

Uniform
All contestants are expected to wear clean, tatter-free uniforms.
All contestants below Brown Belt will wear a white uniform.
Competitors ranking Brown Belt and above may wear a Black, White, or a combination Black and White uniform.




FORMS COMPETITION RULES

Ring Size
The ring will measure 20 feet by 20 feet square.

Calling
Once a contestant is called to the forms ring, he/she will have
three (3) minutes to report to the ring.  If the contestant does not report in the allotted time, their chance to compete is forfeited.

Eligible Forms
Forms must be traditional in origin.
No Free Style forms will be allowed.

Brown Belt and below divisions may perform any form required on their last or next test.
Black Belt and above divisions may perform named forms required for black belt, up to and including their current rank.
(KOREO, BATSAI ... Current rank requirements)

Performance Of Form
When a contestant has been called to the ring by the Head Judge, he/she will make the following introduction:

Name
Which Academy he/she represents
Form to be performed

After the introduction, the Head Judge will inform the Contestant when to begin.  Likewise, the Head Judge will excuse the Contestant from the ring after execution of the form.


Scoring
Scoring will be made on a scale of 9.0 to 9.9 (low to high, respectively) in increments of 0.1 of a point up


Blue Belt and below divisions may restart their form one (1) time with the loss of one (1) point after the judges' scores have been averaged.  A second restart will result in an automatic score of 6.0


Blue Belt and above divisions will automatically receive a 6.0 for any restart.


Tie - Breaker
In the event of a tie, the contestant may choose to repeat a form or perform a different form.




SPARRING COMPETITION RULES

Ring Size
The ring will measure 20 feet by 20 feet square.  The ready lines will be three (3) feet from the center line, six (6) feet apart.

Length Of Matches
Matches will consist of two (2) rounds of one (1) minute each.  Each round will be separated by a thirty (30)
second rest period.  In the event of a tie, a final one (1) minute round will decide the winner.

Each contestant will be allowed a rest period between matches of at least five (5) minutes.

Once a contestant is called to the ring, he/she will have three (3) minutes to report to the ring.  If the contestant does not report in the allotted time, the match will be forfeited.

Equipment
All contestants Must provide the following Equipment:
Head Gear
Hand Pads
Foot Pads
Mouthpiece
Groin Protectors (for men)

Equipment should be checked by the ring's Head Judge for loose strings or ties, improper coverage, etc.

Judges
All rings will have a minimum of two (2) Scoring Judges, one (1) Referee and one (1) Timekeeper.  The Referee will vote only in the event of a tie, after the third tie-breaking round is completed.
The Referee will be responsible for ALL rules interpretations.  In the event of an unsettled rules decision, the final determination will be made by the Tournament Director.

Positioning
Contestants will be placed in brackets by a method which will be pre-approved by the Tournament Directors.  The method may undergo modifications based upon particular tournament enrollment.


Method Of Scoring
All contact will be scored as ONE (1) point, whether a head or body strike.

A point may be taken away if a contestant has received three (3) warnings from the referee.  Each warning thereafter will result in the loss of a point.  A loss of three (3) points in a single match will result in disqualification.

Disrespect in the ring towards an official of the tournament will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament.

At the end of the match, corner judges will show their choice of "Red" or "White".  The Referee will then indicate the winner.

Scoring Areas
FOOT contact will be allowed to the following areas:
Back of the headgear.
Side of the headgear.
Any area of the Torso located below the neck and above the waist.

HAND contact will be allowed to any area of the Torso located below the neck and above the waist.
Strikes to the back of an opponent do not count for a point.


Areas Of Warning
The Referee may issue warnings for the following illegal actions:

Face contact (excessive contact will result in disqualification)
Throat Contact
Take Downs
Trapping or Holding
Striking below the waist
Ax kick to the head
Running out of the ring to avoid the opponent
Stalling in order to run out the clock
Intentional strikes to the back or kidney




BREAKING COMPETITION RULES

Qualifications
All competitors must be at least 13 years of age
All competitors must hold a ranking of Blue or above
Divisions will be determined by the age of the participant and organized prior to the event.

Creative Breaking Procedure

Single Board at 4 Stations.
Competitors have 3 minutes to set up their break, inform the judges and complete the break.
After informing the judges, competitors are not allowed to reset or test the boards. Any further setting up is considered a miss.

Competitors are given 100% of their score if all 4 boards are broken on first attempt. Each missed board reduces their score by 25%.

Judging is assessed on technique, speed between boards and overall creativity.

Any foot or hand technique may be used but boards may not be broken over the body.



Specifications
Each board will measure 12 x 12".
Each board will be #2 white pine
Boards will be supplied by the Tournament (WYWRA)


Weapons COMPETITION RULES

Ring Size
The ring will measure 20 feet by 20 feet square.

Calling
Once a contestant is called to the forms ring, he/she will have three (3) minutes to report to the ring.  If the contestant does not report in the allotted time, their chance to compete is forfeited.

Eligible Weapons and Techniques
Competitors may choose any non-edged (not sharp) competition weapon.  Traditional or freestyle form will be acceptable techniques.
No musical forms will be allowed.
Contestants must wear a clean, traditional martial arts uniform.

Performance of Weapons Forms
When a contestant has been called to the ring by the Head Judge, he/she will make the following introduction:

Name
Which Academy he/she represents
Weapon name and Form to be performed

After the introduction, the Head Judge will inform the contestant when to begin.  Likewise, the Head Judge will excuse the contestant from the ring after execution of the form.



Scoring
Scoring will be made on a scale of 6.0 to 9.9 (low to high, respectively) in increments of 0.5 (1/2) of a point up to 9.0 then 0.1 (1/10) of a point up to 9.9.

Tie - Breaker
In the event of a tie, the contestant may choose to repeat his form or perform a different, eligible form.

Judges
Each ring will have four (4) judges and a head referee to score weapons forms.
